What type of wave are all electromagnetic waves?: Transverse waves.
Do all electromagnetic waves travel at the same speed through a vacuum?: Yes.
List the electromagnetic spectrum in order of increasing frequency.: Radio waves, microwaves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, gamma rays.
Which type of EM wave has the longest wavelength?: Radio waves.
Which type of EM wave has the highest frequency?: Gamma rays.
How does the danger of an EM wave relate to its frequency?: The potential danger increases with increasing frequency.
What harmful effect do microwaves have on the body?: Internal heating of body cells.
What harmful effect does ultraviolet radiation have?: Damage to surface cells and eyes, which can lead to skin cancer.
What harmful effect do x-rays and gamma rays have?: Mutation or damage to cells.
Give a use of infrared radiation.: Cooking, thermal imaging, optical fibres, remote controls or security systems (any one).
Give a use of gamma rays.: Sterilising food and medical equipment, or detecting and treating cancer.
