Simplify the ratio 10:1510:15.
2:32:3 (divide both parts by the HCF, 5).
What are the three steps to divide a quantity in a given ratio?
Add the parts to find total shares; divide the quantity by the total shares; multiply each ratio part by the value of one share.
Share £40 in the ratio 1:31:3. What is the smaller amount?
£10 (total shares = 4, one share = £10).
What is the difference between a part:part and a part:whole ratio?
Part:part compares two parts to each other; part:whole compares one part to the total.
What does 'proportion' mean?
An equality of two ratios.
How do you solve a best-buy problem?
Compare the price per common unit (e.g. per 100g or per item) for each option and choose the lowest.
If two shapes are similar with linear scale factor kk, what is the ratio of their corresponding lengths?
1:k1:k
Express 34\frac{3}{4} as a ratio.
3:43:4
A recipe uses flour and sugar in the ratio 5:25:2. If there is 250g of flour, how much sugar is needed?
One share = 250 ÷ 5 = 50g, so sugar = 2 × 50g = 100g.
Why must a ratio use whole numbers in simplest form?
So that it clearly and simply shows the relationship between quantities, without unnecessary common factors.
