What does the symbol $\leq$ mean?: Less than or equal to.
What is an inverse operation?: An operation that reverses the effect of another operation, e.g. division reverses multiplication.
What is the reciprocal of 5?: $\frac{1}{5}$
State the correct order of operations.: Brackets, then powers/roots/reciprocals, then multiplication and division (left to right), then addition and subtraction (left to right).
Why must decimal points be lined up when adding decimals?: So that digits with the same place value are added together correctly.
What is the product rule for counting?: If there are $m$ ways of doing one thing and $n$ ways of doing another, there are $m \times n$ ways of doing both.
Define profit.: Selling price minus cost price, when the result is positive.
Define VAT.: Value Added Tax — a percentage added to the price of most goods and services.
What is the difference between debit and credit?: A debit takes money out of an account; a credit pays money into an account.
Calculate $2 + 3 \times 4$ .: $14$ , because multiplication is carried out before addition.
What is place value?: The value of a digit depending on its position in a number, such as units, tens or tenths.
Order $-3, 0.5, -1$ from smallest to largest.: $-3, -1, 0.5$
What is a formal written method?: A structured, step-by-step method for calculating, such as column addition or long division.
