Name the four transformations.: Reflection, rotation, enlargement, translation.
What must you state to fully describe a reflection?: The equation of the mirror line.
What three things must you state to fully describe a rotation?: The centre of rotation, the angle of rotation, and the direction (unless the angle is 180°).
What two things must you state to fully describe an enlargement?: The scale factor and the centre of enlargement.
What must you state to fully describe a translation?: The column vector.
What happens to a shape when the enlargement scale factor is between 0 and 1?: The image is smaller than the object.
What happens to a shape when the enlargement scale factor is negative?: The image is on the opposite side of the centre of enlargement and is inverted (Extended only).
Does the direction need to be stated for a 180° rotation?: No — clockwise and anticlockwise give the same result for 180°.
What does the column vector (3, -2) mean for a translation?: Move 3 units right and 2 units down.
Which transformations keep a shape congruent (same size and shape)?: Reflection, rotation and translation.
Which transformation changes the size of a shape while keeping it similar?: Enlargement.
At Extended level, what might a question ask about two transformations applied one after another?: To describe the combination of transformations, in the correct order.
About which points can a rotation's centre be placed?: The origin, a vertex of the shape, or the midpoint of an edge.
