- What does the gradient of a distance-time graph represent?
- The speed of the object.
- What does a flat (horizontal) section of a distance-time graph show?
- The object is stationary (not moving).
- Define velocity.
- Speed in a given direction.
- What is the equation for velocity?
- v = s / t, where s is displacement and t is time.
- Is speed a scalar or a vector? What about velocity?
- Speed is a scalar (magnitude only); velocity is a vector (magnitude and direction).
- What is displacement?
- The straight-line distance from a start point to a finish point, in a specified direction.
- How is average speed calculated for non-uniform motion?
- Average speed = total distance travelled ÷ total time taken.
- What does a curved line on a distance-time graph indicate?
- The object's speed is changing (non-uniform motion).
- A car travels 120 m in 15 s. Calculate its average speed.
- 120 ÷ 15 = 8 m/s.
- What is the difference between distance and displacement?
- Distance is the total path length travelled with no direction; displacement is the straight-line distance from start to finish in a specific direction.
- How do you find the speed at one specific instant on a distance-time graph?
- By finding the gradient of the graph at that exact point (draw a tangent if the line is curved).
- Name two examples of scalar quantities.
- Distance and speed (also time).
