What is the cell cycle?: The sequence a cell passes through: interphase, mitosis, cytokinesis.
What happens during interphase?: The cell grows and replicates its DNA in preparation for division.
Name the four stages of mitosis in order.: Prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase.
What happens during prophase?: Chromosomes condense and the nuclear envelope breaks down.
What happens during metaphase?: Chromosomes line up at the equator of the cell.
What happens during anaphase?: Sister chromatids are pulled to opposite poles.
What happens during telophase?: Nuclear envelopes re-form around each set of chromosomes.
Define cytokinesis.: Division of the cytoplasm producing two daughter cells.
Why are mitosis's daughter cells described as diploid?: Each has a complete, identical set of chromosomes to the parent.
Explain mitosis's role in growth.: Produces new cells, increasing cell number and organism size.
Explain mitosis's role in repair.: Replaces damaged cells with new identical cells.
How does mitosis allow asexual reproduction?: A single parent produces genetically identical offspring.
Define cancer.: A disease caused by uncontrolled cell division.
What is a tumour?: A mass of abnormal cells from uncontrolled division.
